An eight-week, three-session strength program that builds the whole-body foundation basketball athletes need before progressing to power, jumping and court-specific work.

The program

Basketball General Strength is designed for athletes who need a clear and repeatable strength phase before shifting toward faster, more specific court preparation. It organises three whole-body gym sessions per week so that the athlete can develop a strength base without relying on random workouts or constantly changing exercises.

Primary lifts are supported by single-leg, trunk and upper-body work, with low-volume jump and landing preparation included throughout the block. Planned consolidation points reduce monotony and allow the athlete to absorb the work before the main lifts are reloaded. The result is a general strength phase that prepares the athlete for a later emphasis on power, jumping, acceleration and court-specific conditioning.

Who is this program for?

  • Basketball athletes with basic gym competence who can train independently.

  • Players who need a structured general-strength block before progressing to power or jump-focused work.

  • Athletes able to complete three whole-body gym sessions each week around team and court commitments.

  • Players who want built-in tracking and review rather than an exercise list without progression.

What will you work on?

  • General lower- and upper-body strength through repeatable primary lifts.

  • Single-leg strength and control to support the positions used during acceleration, deceleration and landing.

  • Low-volume jump and landing preparation without turning the gym program into a full plyometric plan.

  • Trunk and supporting upper-body strength for whole-body robustness and force transfer.

How the program progresses

  • Intro phase: establish lifting rhythm, technical quality and repeatable working loads.

  • Consolidation phase: consolidate training through planned variations and circuit-based work before reloading the primary lifts.

  • Prep phase: complete a second strength progression using the established movement patterns and improved load tolerance.

  • At completion: reassess the nominated benchmark and determine whether the next phase should focus on power, jumping or personalised court preparation.

What do you receive?

  • A complete eight-week interactive mobile program.

  • Orientation, RIR guidance and instructions for choosing and progressing working loads.

  • Movement preparation options and low-volume jump and landing preparation.

  • Pre- and post-program benchmarking.

  • Eight week-at-a-glance training dashboards.

  • Twenty-four fully prescribed whole-body sessions.

  • Editable load and result fields for every training session.

  • Weekly review pages for completion, effort, readiness and notes.

  • Delivery format: A downloadable interactive PDF designed for mobile use. Open the saved file in Adobe Acrobat for the best experience with editable fields and completion boxes.

What do you need?

  • Access to a well-equipped gym with barbells, dumbbells, cables, benches and appropriate space for the prescribed preparation work.

  • Basic competence in the major strength-training patterns and the ability to choose conservative working loads.

  • A training week that allows three gym sessions without compromising essential court practice, competition and recovery.

What is not included?

  • A basketball skills, conditioning, sprint or complete jump-development program.

  • Individualised changes for competition load, injury, playing position or team schedule.

  • Rehabilitation, return-to-play planning or direct supervision of lifting technique.

  • Important suitability note: This is a general training resource, not individual coaching, medical advice or a rehabilitation plan. If you have an injury, health concern or uncertainty about exercise suitability, obtain appropriate professional guidance before beginning.
